What is a
Doula?
The word doula comes from the Greek word meaning "maidservant." A doula is a professional woman experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth. A doula stays by the laboring woman's side throughout the entire labor, assisting the woman and her partner in carrying out their birth plan.
Please let me introduce myself. I am Laura Rossignol,
a certified birth doula with
Doulas of North America (DONA). I work for the
pregnant woman (and their partner), and therefore can
attend your birth where ever you choose. I am very
fortunate to be on the Preferred Doula List at Eastern
Connecticut Health Network, which includes Manchester
Memorial Hospital and Rockville General Hospital. I have
had vigorous training in childbirth and am a mother
myself. I've also been trained in hypnobirthing and am a
reiki practitioner. All of these things help me to be a
better assistant and advocate for birthing women.
My goal as a birth doula is to assist you in having
the most satisfying birth experience, as you define it!
